About 50 invited guests including many from #redbarboston gathered to see Master Craftsman, Mr. Komatsu assemble a Grand Seiko Spring Drive (9R) movement.
An Asian inspired menu of appetizers and a bar with Japanese beers, Saki, and a special cocktail added to the evening’s fun atmosphere.
After a some time exploring the watch collection, guests were treated to an overview of the brand’s history by Vice President of Grand Seiko America, Rusty Rowlands.
Mr. Komatsu started his career in mechanical watchmaking in 1982 when he joined Seiko Epson. In 1985 he won his first Technical Skill Olympic Gold Medal (Japanese National Skill Olympic Games for the watch-making industry), after which he began training younger watch workers. He has been in charge of training since 2007 and in 2014 he earned the title of Modern Master Craftsman from the Japanese Government.
